Is Waco on Netflix? If you’re looking for a live adaptation of the 1993 Waco Siege, or just want to watch an excellent TV miniseries that will keep you glued to your screen, you can’t go wrong with Waco.

But can you watch it on Netflix?

Yes, you can, but there’s a catch – you can’t watch it in all the countries where Netflix is available. Instead, you can only watch Waco on Netflix in a few regions. To see them all now, follow that link to use StreamCatcher from ProPrivacy. It’s an online service that tells you where Netflix titles are available.

Right now, it seems that Waco is only available in 12 countries:

  1. Argentina
  2. Australia
  3. Canada
  4. Greece
  5. Italy
  6. Malaysia
  7. Poland
  8. Singapore
  9. Slovakia
  10. Sweden
  11. Turkey
  12. The US

Keep in mind ProPrivacy updates the tool regularly, so the list of countries where this miniseries is available might change in the future. But, for now, it’s accurate. We checked if the show is available in all those countries, and can confirm it works in those regions.

Why is this miniseries available in only a few countries, though?

We’ll answer that question, and show you how to unblock this show anywhere in the world in this quick guide.

Why Is Waco Only Available in a Few Countries on Netflix?

It’s due to the geo-blocks Netflix uses. Basically, the site has to take measures to ensure the series is only available in the countries listed above.

Why, though?

It’s simple – because Netflix doesn’t own the miniseries. Instead, they licensed it from the copyright holder so that they can legally stream it on their site. And it seems they were only able to acquire licensing rights for those twelve countries.

We can’t say why because it’s not like Netflix publishes a blog article saying why they didn’t get global rights whenever they license a title.

Our guess is that the global rights weren’t for sale – maybe a competitor already bought the rights for other countries. Or maybe Netflix’s data mining showed that their worldwide audience wouldn’t be interested in that title, and it would only be popular in certain countries.

How Does Netflix Geo-Block Waco?

The site uses your geo-location to direct your traffic to your country’s library, which doesn’t have the show. Here’s how that happens:

  1. When you type Netflix in your URL bar and hit Enter, your browser sends a connection request to the site.
  2. That request contains a lot of metadata, including your IP address.
  3. When Netflix receives your request, it checks what your IP is. By doing that, the site will know what country and city you are from (so, your geo-location).
  4. Based on that information, Netflix will send your traffic to the regional content library that matches your geo-location. If it’s a country they don’t have licensing rights for, Waco won’t show up when you look it up.

Can You Unblock Waco on Netflix?

Yes, you can do that. And no, you won’t need to book a one-week trip to one of the countries where the show is available.

All you need to do is use a VPN. It’s an online tool that hides your IP address and encrypts your Internet traffic. The “hides your IP” part is what matters the most right now because that will prevent Netflix from seeing your geo-location.

Instead, Netflix will only see the VPN’s IP, specifically the IP of the server you’re connected to. If it’s a server in a country where Waco is available, Netflix will think your traffic is coming from that region. So, you’ll end up on a Netflix content library that has the miniseries.

How to Unblock Waco with a VPN on Netflix

The whole process is really simple. Just follow these five steps, and you’ll be able to binge the whole show in no time:

  1. Subscribe to a good Netflix VPN. We recommend using ExpressVPN or CyberGhost VPN.
  2. Download the provider’s app for your device, and install it.
  3. Run the app, and connect to a server. Make sure it’s in one of the countries where Waco is available. Pick the closest country so that you will get optimal speeds.
  4. Head to Netflix, and log into your account.
  5. Look up Waco. It should show up for you now. Click Play, and start enjoying the miniseries.

Here’s proof that we were able to unblock the show with a US server from ExpressVPN:

The provider lets you pick the location of the server (the city), but we edited that out when we took the screenshot. We did that so that Netflix won’t accidentally see this photo and know which server they need to blacklist to stop ExpressVPN from unblocking their platform.

Will a Netflix VPN Improve My Speeds?

Not really – actually, the opposite might happen: your speeds will slow down a bit. It shouldn’t be by a lot, thankfully.

Still, there is one exception when a VPN might improve your Netflix speeds – if your ISP is throttling them. In that case, a VPN can help by encrypting your traffic and hiding the IP of the sites you’re connecting to.

Without that information, your ISP won’t be able to selectively lower your Netflix speeds. They won’t have any idea you’re using the site in the first place!

To Sum It All Up

Yes, you can watch Waco on Netflix, but you can’t watch it worldwide. Instead, it’s only available in twelve countries.

The good news is you can unblock it with a VPN. Just connect to a server in one of those twelve countries (scroll up to the intro to see them), and you’ll be able to watch the whole show in no time.

If you know other unblocking methods that work, please let us know in the comments below. Also, if you know other regional Netflix libraries that have this miniseries, be sure to mention them too.
